LinkedIn Headshots in Dubai: What Works in 2026

You probably update your LinkedIn job title the day you get promoted. Your photo is often a different story. Many of the leaders I meet in Dubai are still using a cropped picture from a wedding, a holiday, or a company event from several years ago.

That small square photo is usually the first thing people see when they look you up. Before they read your headline or your experience, they have already formed a feeling about you. This guide explains what makes a LinkedIn headshot work, what to wear, the mistakes I see most often, and how to prepare.

Why your LinkedIn photo matters

LinkedIn has shared that profiles with a photo get up to 21 times more profile views and 9 times more connection requests than profiles without one. In a city like Dubai, where so much business starts with a LinkedIn search before a first meeting, that difference adds up quickly.

But it is not only about having a photo. It is about having a photo that looks like you on a good day: confident, approachable and current. When people meet you in person and you look like your photo, trust builds faster. When you don't, there is a small moment of doubt.

What a good LinkedIn headshot looks like

Simple framing

Head and shoulders, with your face taking up most of the frame. LinkedIn shows your photo as a small circle, so a wide shot where you are far away simply disappears on a phone screen.

A real, relaxed expression

The best headshots show someone who looks easy to talk to. A gentle smile, relaxed shoulders and eyes that connect with the camera. Forced smiles and stiff poses are easy to spot, even at a small size.

A clean background

A plain studio background in grey, navy or a soft neutral keeps the attention on you. A busy office or a bright outdoor scene competes with your face.

Soft, even light

Good lighting shows natural skin tones and avoids harsh shadows under the eyes. This is the main difference between a phone photo and a professional headshot.

What to wear for a LinkedIn headshot in Dubai

  • Solid colours work best. Navy, charcoal, white, soft blue, burgundy and earth tones photograph well. Avoid small checks, thin stripes and large logos.

  • Dress the way you do on an important workday. If you would wear a suit to meet a client, wear it. If your industry is more relaxed, a smart blazer or a well-fitted shirt is enough.

  • National dress is welcome. If you usually wear a kandura, abaya or shayla at work, wear it. Your photo should look like you on a normal, confident day.

  • Fit matters more than brand. Make sure clothes are pressed and fit well around the shoulders and neck.

  • Keep accessories simple. If you wear glasses every day, keep them on. A watch or small jewellery is fine.

Common mistakes to avoid

  1. Cropped photos from events. A piece of someone else's shoulder, a wine glass or a wedding background sends the wrong message.

  2. Old photos. If your photo is more than two or three years old, or your look has changed, it is time for a new one.

  3. Selfies. Phone cameras held close to the face distort features, and the lighting is rarely flattering.

  4. Photos that are too serious. Leaders often worry about looking "professional enough" and end up looking cold. Warmth builds trust.

  5. AI-generated headshots that don't look like you. They can look polished, but they often smooth away what makes you recognisable. When someone meets you and the face doesn't match, the photo works against you.

How to prepare for your session

  • Sleep well the night before and drink plenty of water.

  • Bring two or three outfit options so you can choose on the day.

  • Think about where the photo will be used: LinkedIn, your company website, speaker profiles, email signature. This helps decide framing and background.

  • Arrive a few minutes early so you are not rushed.

  • Most importantly, don't worry about posing. A good photographer will guide you through every small adjustment.

How long does it take?

Less time than most people expect. A focused LinkedIn headshot session can take around 15 minutes. At fotogie, our Presence Starter session is about 15 minutes in the studio, with 3 edited headshots delivered within 24 hours. You review the photos with me during the session, so you know what you are getting before you leave.

If you are updating photos for a whole team, Presence Team brings a mobile studio to your office so everyone has the same consistent look.

AMR YOUNIS

I love the moments when we get to have meaningful chats, enjoy tasty food, and listen to great tunes together! I'm really into understanding people and their stories, and it's so fulfilling to capture their essence in photos. After 34 years in the corporate world, photography unexpectedly became my thing around 2015, just like it did for many photographers before. In 2023, I decided to do it full-time. I'm based in Dubai and I'm lucky to have a wonderful daughter and son, who are now grown up and doing well in life. Every day, I get to enjoy photography and meet new people, which is amazing.
